UPDATED 10:36 AM CT.
NEW YORK—(ENEWSPF)—August 24, 2012. CNN is reporting that at least 10 people were shot this morning in front of New York’s Empire State Building. Authorities converged on the building when reports of shots being fired were made around 9 a.m.
The suspect in the shooting has been shot and killed by the New York Police. None of the shooting victims have reportedly been killed.
Police have closed several streets around 5th Avenue and 34th Street in Manhattan.
Both the New York Police and FBI remain on the scene and are continuing to investigate.
The FBI does not believe at this time that this was the act of a terrorist.
UPDATED INFORMATION
New York Police Commissioner Ray Kelly reports that the shooting suspect has been identified as 53-year old Jeffrey Johnson, a disgruntled former employee of a business located inside the Empire State Building. Johnson shot a former coworker in the head in a dispute outside the building according to the Commissioner.
As suspect Jeffrey Johnson tried to flee the scene, he pulled a .45 caliber pistol on two approaching police officers, who opened fire on him. Nine people were wounded or grazed by gunfire in the crossfire, Kelly said.
“Some may have been accidentally shot by police officers,” Kelly said.
One of the shooting victims has reportedly died. Other victims are currently receiving medical treatment at New York’s Weill Cornell Medical Center.
