ISAF Joins President Karzai and the Ministry of Interior in Condemning Attack in Herat that Killed 24

KABUL, Afghanistan–(ENEWSPF)–August 18, 2011.  The International Security Assistance Force joins President Karzai and the Afghan Ministry of Interior in condemning the IED attack that reportedly killed numerous civilians and wounded many others today in the area of Sai Kotal road, Tark Abad district of Herat province.

Initial reports indicate that 24 Afghans were killed and 11 wounded when IEDs struck two separate vehicles. Among the dead are children and five women. Afghan officials said that the Taliban were behind this killing.

“Insurgents plan attacks such as these without regard for the civilians they kill, looking for the attention of the media,” said Rear Admiral Hal Pittman, an ISAF spokesman. “The Afghan people see the selfish destruction the insurgents bring. ISAF joins President Karzai and MoI in condemning this atrocity.”
