In the week ending November 14, the advance figure for seasonally adjusted initial claims was 271,000, a decrease of 5,000 from the previous week’s unrevised level of 276,000. The 4-week moving average was 270,750, an increase of 3,000 from the previous week’s unrevised average of 267,750.
There were no special factors impacting this week’s initial claims.
The advance seasonally adjusted insured unemployment ratewas 1.6 percent for the week ending November 7, unchanged from the previous week’s unrevised rate. The advance number for seasonally adjusted insured unemployment during the week ending November 7 was 2,175,000, a decrease of 2,000 from the previous week’s revised level. The previous week’s level was revised up 3,000 from 2,174,000 to 2,177,000. The 4-week moving average was 2,167,000, an increase of 750 from the previous week’s revised average. The previous week’s average was revised up by 1,000 from 2,165,250 to 2,166,250.
UNADJUSTED DATA
The advance number of actual initial claims under state programs, unadjusted, totaled 263,427 in the week ending November 14, a decrease of 27,633 (or -9.5 percent) from the previous week. The seasonal factors had expected a decrease of 22,113 (or -7.6 percent) from the previous week. There were 286,115 initial claims in the comparable week in 2014.
The advance unadjusted insured unemployment rate was 1.4 percent during the week ending November 7, unchanged from the prior week. The advance unadjusted number for persons claiming UI benefits in state programs totaled 1,907,098, an increase of 6,439 (or 0.3 percent) from the preceding week. The seasonal factors had expected an increase of 8,709 (or 0.5 percent) from the previous week. A year earlier the rate was 1.6 percent and the volume was 2,067,337.
The total number of people claiming benefits in all programs for the week ending October 31 was 1,951,011, an increase of 24,215 from the previous week. There were 2,174,852 persons claiming benefits in all programs in the comparable week in 2014.
No state was triggered “on” the Extended Benefits program during the week ending October 31.
Initial claims for UI benefits filed by former Federal civilian employees totaled 1,763 in the week ending November 7, an increase of 550 from the prior week. There were 1,451 initial claims filed by newly discharged veterans, an increase of 247 from the preceding week.
There were 14,520 former Federal civilian employees claiming UI benefits for the week ending October 31, an increase of 554 from the previous week. Newly discharged veterans claiming benefits totaled 17,271, a decrease of 454 from the prior week.
The highest insured unemployment rates in the week ending October 31 were in Alaska (3.4), Puerto Rico (3.0), the Virgin Islands (2.7), New Jersey (2.3), California (2.1), Pennsylvania (2.1), Connecticut (2.0), Nevada (2.0), West Virginia (2.0), and Illinois (1.8).
The largest increases in initial claims for the week ending November 7 were in New Jersey (+2,963), Pennsylvania (+2,840), Georgia (+2,509), Texas (+2,455), and New York (+2,237), while the largest decreases were in Louisiana (-632), Michigan (-520), California (-336), Arkansas (-297), and Kentucky (-193).
