Dirty Tactics Played in War on Women

Washington, D.C.–(ENEWSPF)–October 16, 2012.  Nancy Keenan, president of NARAL Pro-Choice America, issued the following statement in response to the Huffington Post piece “Live Action Undercover ‘Sting’,” which reveals that an activist affiliated with the anti-choice group, Live Action, approached several leading women’s organizations, including NARAL Pro-Choice America, seeking a meeting with their staff under false pretenses in an effort to discredit their electoral efforts.

“This desperate attempt to undermine our political efforts should serve as a reminder that the stakes are high for America come this November,” Keenan said. “Anti-choice groups will stop at nothing to counter anyone who opposes their extreme views. This latest trick only reinforces the need to continue to work now through election day to support pro-choice candidates.”

During the 2012 election cycle, NARAL Pro-Choice America PAC has contributed over $600,000 to federal pro-choice candidates. These PAC contributions top the PAC’s totals in 2010 and almost doubles them from 2008.

“Our priority is to elect pro-choice champions and defeat opponents of women’s freedom and privacy,” Keenan said. “We are prepared for campaign battle in 2012 and will mobilize our one million member activists in support of candidates who will stand with our allies in countering attacks on a woman’s right to choose.”

Just last month, NARAL Pro-Choice America rolled out the next phase of its 2012 electoral program.   The program centers around targeting “Obama Defectors” – women who voted for President Obama in 2008 but who are not yet committed to do so in 2012.
