Greets Students, Teachers, Parents and School Leaders at LEARN Hunter Perkins School on Their First Day of the 2013-2014 School Year
CHICAGO--(ENEWSPF)--August 1, 2012. This morning, Mayor Emanuel highlighted the importance of all students getting back to school on the first day, greeting students, parents, teachers and school leaders at LEARN Hunter Perkins school as they made their way to the first day of class for the 2013-2014 school year. The Mayor was joined by Chicago Public Schools (CPS) CEO JC Brizard to mark the start of the new school year at this school, part of the LEARN Charter School network.
“Our children deserve a full, quality education that will help them succeed and excel,” said Mayor Rahm Emanuel. “Being in school on day one, whether at a charter, neighborhood school, magnet, or other academy, is a crucial piece to continued success throughout the school year and I’m happy to see so many parents, great teachers and community leaders like these this morning supporting our students today and every day.”
This year, CPS Early Start Schools (Track E) begin on Monday, August 13th, and CPS Regular Start Schools (Track R) begin on Tuesday, September 4th. With the full school day starting this school year, CPS Track E and Track R elementary school students will have a seven-hour day and CPS Track E and Track R high school students will be in school for seven-and-a-half hours.
Parents are encouraged to check with their school and visit www.cps.edu/firstday to be sure they know the correct start date for their child’s school. Parents can also call the back to school hotline at (773) 553-3CPS (3277) or contact their school directly to confirm start dates.
