Park Forest, IL—(ENEWSPF)—The Village of Park Forest Sustainability Office has two initiatives to help residents in their efforts to maintain an environmentally friendly household.

Plastic Pot & Tray Recycling
A trip to a favorite nursery for flowers, vegetables, and other plants is an annual Spring ritual for many Park Foresters. Unfortunately, the plastic pots and trays that the plants come in cannot go in the curbside recycling bins.

The Village of Park Forest has a solution. Take those pots and trays to the lobby of the village hall and drop them in the marked bins. The Sustainability Office will then take them to Van Kalker Farms and Greenhouses in Lynwood. Van Kalker Farms will recycle or reuse them.
According to Carrie Malfeo, the Park Forest Sustainability Coordinator, this is the fourth year the village has offered the program. Drop off the pots and trays during regular village hall hours until July 1.
Home Composter Sale
While supplies last, the village is offering home composters for $55. Made entirely of recycled plastic, the 128-gallon composters are easy to assemble and feature a tight lid.

Each composter comes with “The Composter Cookbook.” Here you will find tips on what you can and cannot compost. Likewise, learn how to manage your composter and utilize the composted materials in your yard and garden. Compostable materials include fruits, vegetables, coffee grounds, and yard waste.
Residents can purchase a composter by contacting the Sustainability Office at 708-503-9372 and arranging a pickup time at Village Hall. Cash and checks are accepted (no credit card purchases).
Alternatively, composters are available for purchase on May 31 at the Park Forest Main Street Market from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. The Market is located at 152 Main Street. The composter bin comes in two pieces, which will typically fit in the backseat of a car.
