CHILE–(ENEWSPF)–February 27, 2010. The death toll from this morning’s 8.8 magnitude earthquake in Chile has now risen to 147. Three of the deaths have been attributed to a tsunami wave hitting a Chilean coastal town.
Several aftershocks have been reported and felt as far away as Argentina. Major structural damage has occurred across the region. Power, water, and land-line telephones are out. The Santiago airport is expected to remain closed for the next 72 hours.
