Washington, D.C.â(ENEWSPF)â The U.S. House voted 236-184 on July 8 in favor of an amendment sponsored by Rep. Tim Huelskamp (R-KS) to the Defense Appropriations bill that bars the use of funds to implement training on the repeal of the “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell” law for chaplains. The amendment was introduced in response to an April memorandum from the Navy Chief of Chaplains (subsequently withdrawn for further review) that correctly concluded that the discriminatory Defense of Marriage Act does not bar a chaplain from voluntarily officiating at a lawful marriage of a same-sex couple, even at a Department of Defense facility.Â
