Chicago, IL—(ENEWSPF)— U.S. Rep. Robin Kelly (IL-02), vice chair of the Gun Violence Prevention Task Force, released the following statement marking 13 years after the shooting at Sandy Hook Elementary School:
“Today, I’m thinking of the 20 children and six educators whose lives were taken in a shooting at Sandy Hook Elementary School 13 years ago. Their lives were tragically cut short by gun violence, and the survivors were forever traumatized. Our students and teachers should be safe at school, but generations continue to experience shooting after shooting. Just last night, two people were fatally shot, and nine more people were injured in a shooting at Brown University.
“I will never give up in the fight to end gun violence at our schools, our parks, our streets, and our neighborhoods. Elected to Congress the first time shortly after the shooting at Sandy Hook — and then, right before I was sworn into office, I watched in disbelief and anger as the Senate failed to pass universal background checks. I brought the voices of survivors and gun safety advocates with me to Congress and helped pass the first federal gun safety law in nearly 30 years. Americans cannot wait another 30 years. I will continue to act with the urgency that gun violence demands and save lives.”
President Obama Reacts
