The Chicago Cubs and Chicago White Sox prepare for the 2019 baseball season.

Las Vegas, NV-(ENEWSPF)- The MLB Winter Meetings came to an end yesterday, with the Cubs staying quiet, and their Southside rivals making a trade with the Pittsburgh Pirates. The White Sox acquired right-handed starting pitcher Ivan Nova on Tuesday. In return, the Pirates received pitching prospect Yordi Rosario and international slot money.

The Cubs, on the other hand, did not make a splash at this year’s meetings as they have in years past when they went out to acquire names such as Jon Lester in December 2014,  Jason Heyward and Ben Zobrist in December 2015, thus altering the course of Cubs history. In the Winter Meetings in December 2016, the Cubs signed closer, Wade Davis, and Tyler Chatwood lastDecember.

For the Cubs and Sox,  both teams are still in the mix for Bryce Harper. Other ball clubs such as the Philadelphia Phillies, Los Angeles Dodgers, and the New York Yankees are still in the running. Despite acquiring slugging first baseman Paul Goldschmidt, the St. LouisCardinals have also expressed some interest in Harper.

Cubs fans can’t help but go a little crazy whenever Harper is seen hanging out and taking pictures with childhood friend/Cubs’ third baseman, Kris Bryant. Also, Harper recently teased some Sox fans with a reply to third baseman Nicky Delmonico’s Instagram video. Harper wrote: “Wiffle ball on the beach with Sox fans! Doesn’t get much better” before adding, “#soxonthebeach #mexico.” Sox fans were quick to reply and tell GM Ricky Hahn to hurry up and make the deal.

With spring training only a few months away, it will be interesting to see what transpires,  which off-season moves that the Cubs and White Sox will make moving ahead toward the upcoming 2019season.
