Cano Joins Howard Brown Health Center


Chicago, IL—(ENEWSPF)— Howard Brown today announced that Deborah Cano, M.D. has joined the agency. Dr. Cano, a board-certified psychiatrist, specializes in addiction, and will be seeing clients on Monday, Tuesday, and Friday at the Sheridan Road facility.

Prior to joining Howard Brown, Dr. Cano was the Unit Chief of the Substance Abuse Resource Program at Bellevue Hospital Center, and a clinical instructor at NYU School of Medicine, in New York City. She is licensed by the states of Illinois and New York, and in 2006 was Honorably Discharged from the United States Navy Reserve. She is the recipient of numerous awards including: the Kemper Scholarship for Underserved Minorities; the Health Professionals Scholarship, US Navy Reserve; the Navy Achievement Medal; and the APA/SAMHSA Substance abuse Minority Fellowship.

When asked why she decided to join Howard Brown, Dr. Cano said, “As a member of both the Hispanic and gay communities, I know how underserved these populations are. Howard Brown is there on the front lines, affording me the opportunity to work directly with them. I’ve only been here a short time, but it’s exciting to be in an environment where people enjoy their work and know that they are making a difference.”

Dr. Cano received her Bachelor of Science in Biology at the University of Houston, and her Medical Degree from the University of Texas in Galveston. She is a member of the American Psychiatric Association, the American Academy of Addiction Psychiatry, and the Gay and Lesbian Medical Association.
