Congresswoman Duckworth Now Accepting Applications for Military Service Academy Nominations


Washington, DC–(ENEWSPF)–October 19, 2015.  Today, Congresswoman Tammy Duckworth (IL-08) announced she is now accepting applications from high school students seeking a Congressional nomination to a U.S. Military Service Academy through her website. Each year the Congresswoman, along with a panel of judges, select from the applicants a group of outstanding 8th District students to receive Congressional nominations to attend West Point, the Air Force Academy, the Naval Academy or the Merchant Marine Academy. The Congresswoman recently hosted an informational session about the application process at the Elgin Armory for students interested in attending these prestigious, competitive and highly selective institutions that give them the chance serve their country while receiving an exemplary education.

“It takes a special kind of young man or woman to succeed at a U.S. Military Service Academy,” said Duckworth. “The rigorous nomination process demands outstanding test scores, a high GPA and a commitment to community service. I encourage all interested 8th District students to apply for a nomination through my website and applaud their desire to serve our country.”

In order to be considered, a student must get a formal recommendation from their Member of Congress, Senator or the Vice President. Students must apply directly to the Military Service Academy and elected official of their choice in order to be considered. The deadline to apply for a Congressional nomination through the Congresswoman’s office is November 20, 2015. Interested parties can find more information about the process here.
