This week, Congresswoman Robin Kelly was awarded the prestigious Abraham Lincoln Award by the Illinois Council Against Handgun Violence (ICHV.)

“I’m deeply humbled and honored by this recognition from the Illinois Council Against Handgun Violence. Every day, this remarkable organization is working hard to save lives and prevent violence,” said Congresswoman Robin Kelly.

ICHV is the nation’s oldest and largest statewide organization working to prevent the devastation caused by firearms. Founded in 1975, ICHV uses a multi-pronged approach to educate, raise public awareness, and build coalitions to create change and stop gun violence.

“We are thrilled to honor Congresswoman Robin Kelly with our Abraham Lincoln Award.  Robin is truly a hero to the gun violence prevention movement,” said Colleen Daley, ICHV’s Executive Director. “She is not afraid to stand up to the NRA and tell her colleagues in Washington that “thoughts and prayers” are not enough. Her unwavering commitment to this issue has changed the conversation around gun violence.”

Since her election to Congress, Congresswoman Kelly has been a fierce advocate for gun safety legislation. She has authored several bills to reduce gun violence and create jobs, especially for at-risk young people. Additionally, she helped lead last year’s historic House Gun Violence Sit-In, following the tragedy at Pulse Nightclub in Orlando, FL.

Congresswoman Kelly was honored along with former political aide to President Obama, Ken Bennett. She added, “I’d also like to congratulation my friend and a true fighter for lifesaving common sense, Ken Bennett, on his Community Empowerment Award. Thank you Ken for all of your work.”
