Durbin, Emanuel Announce a $10.2 Million Investment in Chicago Midway Airport

WASHINGTON, DC–(ENEWSPF)—August 6, 2015. U.S. Senator Dick Durbin (D-IL) and Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel announced yesterday that the City of Chicago, Illinois has received $10,210,000 in funding through the U.S. Department of Transportation’s (DOT) Federal Aviation Administration for infrastructure improvements and upgrades at Chicago Midway International Airport. Of this funding, $210,000 will be used to purchase additional equipment. In addition, $10 million will be used for noise mitigation efforts near Chicago Midway International Airport. This grant will fund sound insulation at homes that experience higher than normal sound volume due to their proximity to the airport.

“Last year, more than 21 million passengers traveled through Chicago’s Midway Airport, which provides direct access to the region for visitors and businesses,” said Durbin. “This federal investment will ensure that this critical transportation link can continue to grow while limiting disturbance to the children and families who live nearby.”

“Midway International Airport is a critical economic engine for Chicago and the region. While we want to ensure Chicago remains at the forefront of global aviation, we also want to balance the quality of life for airport neighbors. That’s why we anticipated receiving these funds and installed insulation for noise mitigation,” said Mayor Emanuel. “I want to thank U.S. Senator Durbin for his leadership and support in prioritizing this funding.”
