Park Forest, IL–(ENEWSPF)– The Village of Park Forest released a statement reminding residents that it is illegal to sweep leaves into the street.

According to village officials, leaves clog storm sewers, resulting in problems for residents and clean up for public works crews. Therefore, sweeping leaves into the streets is strictly prohibited, with fines of up to $500.

Leaves can be disposed of by placing them in yard waste bags, available for purchase at Village Hall for $2.20 per bag, or by visiting 7-Eleven, Steger’s True Value, the Park Forest Currency Exchange and several other stores where hardware is sold.

Plastic garbage bags cannot be used for yard waste.

Yard waste stickers must be placed on non-Star disposal yard waste bags for pick up. Yard waste stickers for non-Star disposal waste bags can be purchased for $1.80 each at Village Hall, 7-Eleven, True Value of Steger, and Park Forest’s Currency Exchange. The final yard waste collection for the fall 2008 season will be Tuesday, November 25th. Bags with proper stickers can be placed near the curb on your regular garbage day.
