Crete, IL–(ENEWSPF)– Congresswoman-elect Debbie Halvorson issued the following statement in regard to the recently released final version of the Surface Transportation Board’s Environmental Impact Study of the proposed sale of the EJ&E rail line to Canadian National:
"I am extremely disappointed with the STB’s disregard for the input of communities along the EJ&E railway. The proposed sale of the EJ&E to Canadian National poses a threat to the safety, environment, and economy of local communities, will increase exponentially both rail and car traffic along the line, and will force local communities to bear the financial burden of the track’s acquisition by a foreign company. The final EIS does not adequately take into account these issues or the necessary means of mitigation, and instead simply ignores the communities along the track. This is unacceptable and unjust."
