House Energy and Commerce Chairmen Request Information from Health Insurers


Wahsington, D.C.–(ENEWSPF)–March 2, 2010.  Chairman Henry A. Waxman and Subcommittee Chairman Bart Stupak today sent letters to the four largest for-profit health insurance companies asking for information about claim denials related to pre-existing conditions and company policies related to coverage of maternity care in the individual health insurance market.

Chairman Waxman and Subcommittee Chairman Stupak also requested that the CEOs of the companies testify on these issues at a Subcommittee on Oversight and Investigations hearing on March 23, 2010.

Letters were sent to Angela Braly, Wellpoint, Stephen Hemsley, United Health, Michael McCallister, Humana, and Ronald Williams, Aetna.
