Health Care Reform

Representatives Rangel, Miller, Waxman Statement on President Obama’s Health Reform Proposal

WASHINGTON, D.C.—(ENEWSPF)—February 22, 2010.  The chairmen of the three House committees with jurisdiction over health policy, U.S. Reps. Charles B. Rangel (D-NY), George Miller (D-CA), and Henry A. Waxman (D-CA), today responded to President Obama’s health insurance reform proposal released this morning. The chairmen will be attending the White House’s bipartisan meeting on health reform.

“The plan President Obama released today keeps us moving in the right direction.  It incorporates key ideas passed by the House and Senate and appears to respond to concerns raised by many House lawmakers. We look forward to reviewing his plan in more detail.

“For nearly a century, generations of Americans have fought to make the dream of quality, affordable health insurance a reality. The release of the President’s plan, coupled with his decision to hold a bipartisan meeting on Thursday, reflects his strong commitment to continuing our transparent efforts to finally fix this broken health insurance system.

“Now, with Congress closer to achieving this goal than ever before, the American people are calling for lawmakers to work together to cross the finish line. It is time for Congress and the administration to take final steps to enact a bill that lowers costs for families, seniors and small businesses, creates strong rules to hold insurance companies accountable, and finally guarantees access to quality, affordable health insurance for every American.”
