Washington, DC—(ENEWSPF)–November 15, 2013 – Representative Jan Schakowsky released the following statement on Republican bill Keep Your Health Plan Act:
“Today Republicans blocked consideration of a Democratic measure, which included language from my bill H.R. 3504 Consumer Protection and Rate Review Act. The language included would prevent consumers from paying an unreasonable insurance premium by allowing regulators to deny or modify excessive, unjustified or unfairly discriminatory rates in every state.
“Unfortunately Republicans choose to score political points over protecting families and small businesses from rising health insurance premiums. The evidence shows that health consumers benefit if they live in states where insurance regulators have and use the authority to prevent unreasonable price increases. Unfortunately, in too many states, like Illinois, that authority is missing. This bill is a commonsense solution that protects families and small businesses but Republicans continue to block efforts to provide quality, affordable coverage.”
