Health Care Reform

Statement by Representative Schakowsky on Report that Healthcare Cost Growth is Lowest on Record

Washington, DC—(ENEWSPF)–November 20, 2013 – Rep. Jan Schakowsky released the following statement on the Council of Economic Advisers report:

“Today’s report from the Council of Economic Advisers provides more proof that the Affordable Care Act is working to lower medical inflation by providing greater value and efficiency in health care spending.

“Since the new health law passed in 2010, per capita health care spending has dropped to an average 1.3% a year – the lowest level in nearly 50 years. These are not just one-time changes but the result of thoughtful improvements that will provide more and more savings in the future.

“Taxpayers, seniors and people with disabilities on Medicare, and families and businesses purchasing private coverage will all reap the benefits. And lower health care spending will benefit the entire economy since employers will have more resources to expand and consumers will have more money in their pocket to buy goods and services.”
