Furniture Donations Have Helped Sertoma Centre Fulfill Their Mission

Alsip, IL–(ENEWSPF)– It is always wonderful to hear about a happy ending, especially around the holidays. Little did a family know when they donated their used furniture to Sertoma Centre’s Good as New Thrift Store, just how much happiness they would provide.

All proceeds from Good as New go towards underwriting programs for individuals with disabilities at one of Sertoma’s three day program facilities. In the current economy that alone is a welcome blessing. However in November, when one family donated dining room, living room and kitchen furnishing, they made a home for individuals with disabilities just starting out for the first time in their own apartment.

In addition to the ten residential homes and three day facilities, Sertoma Centre staff supports about two dozen other individuals who are capable of living on their own, with some supervision. It fulfills our mission to provide opportunities that empower individuals with disabilities to achieve personal success. Just like it is for most of us, independent living is a major achievement for Derrick Hudson.  Having his own apartment, with beautiful furniture and a large screen TV became an early Christmas wish come true.

To make other wishes come true and keep our store operating at full speed, we ask you to please continue donating, especially furniture to our Good as New Store. Large items can be picked up by calling
