Lance Bass Appears in New Video on Winning Marriage in the South

New York–(ENEWSPF)–March 13, 2014.  Today Southerners for the Freedom to Marry released a web ad featuring Mississippi-born musician Lance Bass and his fiancé Michael Turchin about their support for marriage for same-sex couples. The ad, the second in a series, is part of a $1 million campaign to grow majority support for marriage in the South. A March 5 poll by the Washington Post/ABC News shows a majority of people in South support marriage for same-sex couples, with 50% of Southerners in support and only 42% opposed.

In the video, Lance Bass says, “We’re here; our feet are planted here in Mississippi, and we can tell you by experience that there’s tons of support down here. … Growing up in the South and seeing how change is definitely happening down here way faster than I ever thought it would happen here, I think we have grown leaps and bounds … This is where we need to start taking it to the next level. We want to encourage everyone to be a part of Southerners for the Freedom to Marry.”

Freedom to Marry is the campaign to win marriage nationwide. We are pursuing our Roadmap to Victory by working to win the freedom to marry in more states, grow the national majority for marriage, and end federal marriage discrimination. We partner with individuals and organizations across the country to end the exclusion of same-sex couples from marriage and the protections, responsibilities, and commitment that marriage brings.
