
This first painting of the series is actually the second completed and represents the young man prior to military experience, naïve and innocent. Mixed Media, 36” x 47”, 2003. The second image was completed in 2001. Here the artist wants to capture the intense and profound fear of combat without graphic detail. Mixed Media, 42” x 48”, 2001. This third image represents a shift in thinking to an eventual return to “The World” or home with all of the conflicts associated with that kind of “homecoming.” Mixed Media, 46” x 49”,2005. This final portrait in the series reveals an older man coming to terms with a lifetime of conflict with an understanding of survival both physical and psychological in scope.
