October 22, 12 Noon In Chicago, No More Stolen Lives: Say Their Names; A Public Reading and Remembrance: A Demand for Justice

CHICAGO—(ENEWSPF)—October 21, 2015. On Thursday, October 22, at noon in Thompson Center Plaza, 100 W. Randolph, Chicago-area “Stolen Lives” families whose loved ones have been murdered by the police, will join those in New York City for #RiseUpOctober, and in at least 25 cities across the country to “Say Their Names.” Faith leaders, students, artists, community activists, and many others will read the names of just some of the thousands of people, ranging from age 7 to 92, killed by law enforcement across this country. A disproportionate number of these victims were Black and Brown—their lives stolen under the color of authority with the state’s approval over and over again. After the remembrance, there will be a march for justice.

Chicago-area family members whose loved ones were killed by police, including the families of Darius Pinex, Dakota Bright, Rekia Boyd, Justus Howell and others, will travel to New York City to join approximately 100 such families from across the country in the 3 days of action of #RiseUpOctober 22-24.

The Seattle Times reported the moving testimony of Washington families going to the protests. Oct. 23 will be a day of non-violent direct action to #Shut DownRikers NY. The protests will culminate in a massive national outpouring into the streets of New York City on Saturday, Oct. 24 to boldly proclaim “STOP Police Terror! Which Side Are You On?” Busloads of people from Chicago and Waukegan, will be leaving on Oct. 23, to Flood the Streets of NY to STOP Police Terror.

Gloria Pinex, mother of Darius Pinex, murdered by Chicago police in a routine traffic stop in January 2011, stated, “For 4 years I have been deceived. I always knew I was being lied to – just never knew that it was to this extent and how many people played a role in covering it up. Indict the cops! Fire the lead prosecutor. I want all that. I want justice! I want everybody who is pissed off about this system to be with me on October 22, 23, and 24 in New York City. Rise Up October Stop Police Terror! Which Side Are You On?”

Precious Edwards, expressed her thoughts this way: “We have to take a stand and the time is now… I am the older sister to now 18 yr old Dakota Bright. My brother, then 15-yrs old, was hounded down and brutally murdered by Chicago police Nov. 8, 2012. He was chased thru a dark alley where he was brought to his death by one fatal shot to the back of the head at point blank range….

October 22-24, rise up black brown white pink and purple people because this is not an issue of race, it’s an issue of immorality. How long will we be tortured and remain silent? How many of our own do we have to lose before we realize every life does matter. Come to NYC. Say the names; if you’ve never lost someone to police brutality come listen to the name. Please buy a ticket, support our family in this trying time, support your friends and family in this trying time, support a neighbor or even a familiar face from the news…” (read whole statement)

As thousands are mobilizing for #RiseUpOctober, new information has been reported by the Guardian U.K .about the extent of torture and kidnapping carried out by the Chicago police at the notorious off-the-books former warehouse called Homan Square. The CPD has used Homan Square to “disappear” over 7000 people so far and this criminal enterprise continues to this very day, as do the denials from city officials. #RiseUpOctober activists say, “All police torture, terror and murder must stop, it is part of a national epidemic with genocidal implications. Homan Square is yet another damning reason why we have to STOP Police Terror/Which Side are You On?”
