South Suburban Mortgage Foreclosure Crisis at the Park Area League of Women Voters Meeting on Wednesday, February 22, 2012


Park Forest, IL—(ENEWSPF)—February 14, 2012.  The League of Women Voters of the Park Forest Area’s February 22, meeting will feature a presentation by John Petruszak, Executive Director of the South Suburban Housing Center, concerning  the origins and recommendations to address the south suburban mortgage foreclosure crisis.   The public meeting being held at 7:00 pm  at the Park Forest Public Library, 400 Lake Boulevard in Park Forest. 

The Housing Center is the regional HUD- certified Housing Counseling and Fair Housing Enforcement agency serving the south suburbs since 1975.  Mr. Petruszak will summarize testimony he has given about the local foreclosure crisis to the National Commission on Fair Housing and Equal Opportunity Hearings, the UN Human Rights Council’s Universal Periodic Review and to a National Fair Housing Conference hosted by John Marshall Law School.  He will review the relationship between historic demographic patterns, predatory lending practices and the resulting severity of the rate of foreclosure in the south suburbs.  Programs in place and further recommendations to resolve the plight of families victimized by foreclosure will be also be addressed. 

The League of Women Voters of the Park Forest Area was established in 1949 and welcomes anyone interested in promoting responsible government to be a member. The League is a nonpartisan political organization which encourages informed and active participation in government, works to increase understanding of major public policy issues, and influences public policy through education and advocacy.
