Summer Reading for the Kids at the Park Forest Library


Park Forest, IL—(ENEWSPF)—May 22, 2011. The Park Forest Library, 400 Lakewood Boulevard, invites kids ages 0 – 18 to be part of its Summer 2011 Reading Program “A Midsummer Knight’s Read.”

Start your quest on Tuesday, June 7 at 7 PM with sign-up and a special presentation of King Arthur and his adventurous tales of the knights and ladies in his court at Camelot. Audience members will be elevated into the Order of Chivalry and later be invited to partake in Ye Olde Ice Cream Feast.

June 14 Flag Pole Dedication

Festivities will begin at 2 PM with crafts and music and we will gather at 2:45 PM for a parade at 3 PM.

Weekly Special events will be held on Wednesday afternoons, including:

  • June 16 – Design Your Own Coat of Arms Workshop and the Feudal Game Show Competition
  • June 22 – Fairy Princess Festival
  • June 29 – Flutes & Lutes
  • July 13 – Ye Merry Olde Sidewalk Faire
  • July 20 – Castle Building Competition.

Thursdays at the Library will be “Medieval Crafts Days,” featuring basket-weaving, candle-making, leather-braiding, and wire jewelry-making.

Other events include:

  • Monday Morning Preschool Story Time
  • Monday Afternoon Book Clubs
  • Tuesday Afternoon Game Competition
  • Tuesday Evening Pajama Story Time
  • Wednesday Morning LapSit and Toddler Art
  • Friday Movie Days.

“A Midsummer Knight’s Read” will conclude on Thursday, August 4 with prize drawings and a special 7 PM presentation of Jim Nesci’s ‘Cold Blooded Creatures.’ Successful summer readers will get a chance to meet Bubba the alligator and Tank the 55 pound tortoise.

And, the fun’s not over until Labor Day! In August, there will be a special series of Discovery Times for ages 5 – 7, and a Getting Ready for Kindergarten and First Grade Evening for parents and new students. The 3rd Annual Back to School Bash is scheduled for late August – stop by the Library this summer for a calendar of all events.
