Thorn Creek Nature Center Hosts Historic Farm Walk on Sunday, June 5

Registration required by Friday, June 3

Park Forest, IL—(ENEWSPF)—May 31, 2016.  Step back in time on the annual Historic Farm Walk on Sunday, June 5 from 1-3 p.m.   Built in the early part of the 20th century, the farm is nestled deep within Thorn Creek Nature Preserve.  Learn about the Hornicek family and the buildings that they built.  Help collect eggs from the hens and wander among the organic gardens.  Find out how to grow garlic.  This fun program is free and for all ages.  Participants will meet at Thorn Creek Nature Center and caravan to the farm.  Registration is required by Friday, June 3: 708-747-6320 or [email protected].

Thorn Creek Nature Center is open Friday and Sunday, noon to 4 p.m. Call before you plan to visit the nature center. Three and a half miles of trails are open daily, dawn to dusk.  Trail walkers should be aware that our south bridge across Thorn Creek was badly damaged by floods and was removed. The new north bridge across Thorn Creek is open and all the trails are open.  Walkers should plan their hikes to allow for coming back around the trails to cross at the north bridge only.  There are signs and maps at the trail head.  Stop out and visit us at 247 Monee Road, Park Forest, 708-747-6320, [email protected].
