The public is invited to participate when the League of Women Voters of the Park Forest Area meets to discuss its position on immigration. The meeting will be Saturday January 13 from 10 am until noon at Grace United Protestant Church, 266 Somonauk, Park Forest.
The issue is not a position on national immigration reform but a position on the role of our state and local governments vis a vis immigrants. Specific discussion questions include the role of state government in providing services such as counseling and education to immigrants regardless of immigration status; whether the state should provide "driving certificates" to undocumented drivers; and whether local police should be given authority to enforce immigration laws.
At this meeting information on both sides of each question will be presented for discussion. The League leadership encourages members and nonmembers to attend, learn, and participate.
