Marian Mourns Loss of Former Principal Sr. M. Antonette Feldhake

Springfield, IL–(ENEWSPF)– Sister M. Antonette Feldhake, O.P., 81, of Springfield, died Wednesday, Nov. 5, 2008, at the Dominican Sisters Motherhouse in Springfield.

Sister Mary Antonette Feldhake, O. P., assumed principalship of Marian Catholic High School in September 1966, a position she served in until 1975.

Sister Antonette was born in Centralia to Fred and Minnie (Theis) Feldhake. She joined the Dominican Sisters in 1951.

"My purpose and greatest challenge in life is to learn and to live in a way that will make Christ come alive and be real for others," Sister Antonette once wrote.

Over her lifetime, she shared her gifts teaching and administering at Our Lady of Grace in Chicago and Marian Catholic High School in Chicago Heights, Sacred Heart Academy, Little Flower and Christ the King in Springfield, St. Mary in Litchfield, St. Thomas Aquinas in Hammond, La., and was administrative secretary to the prioress general. Sister served in pastoral ministry at St. Mary of the Assumption in Sainte Marie.

Sister Antonette was preceded in death by her parents and sisters, Marie and Edna.

She is survived by her sister, Ruth; three nieces; two nephews; and her Dominican Sisters, with whom she lived and ministered for 57 years.

Visitation was held from 3:30 to 7 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 6, 2008, at Sacred Heart Convent Motherhouse, 1237 W. Monroe St . A vigil service took place at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday, November 6. A funeral mass will followed at Sacred Heart Convent at 7 p.m. with the Rev. Peter Witchousky, O.P., presiding. The final commendation and burial service was at 10:30 a.m. Friday, Nov. 7, 2008, at Sacred Heart Convent Motherhouse, 1237 W. Monroe St.

Burial followed at Calvary Cemetery .
