Park Forest Police Report for June 22, 2009


Walter L. Jones, 19, 4351 Maple Terrace, Country Club Hills, was arrested on June 10 and charged with consumption of alcohol by a minor when police were dispatched to the 300 block of Marquette Street to investigate a report of underage consumption of alcohol in a vehicle. Police were advised that subjects were drinking in a white four-door vehicle parked on the street, according to police.

A juvenile was arrested on June 12 and issued two municipal citations charging unlawful discharge of an air gun and damage to property when police were dispatched to the 200 block of Indiana Street to investigate a report of criminal damage to property. The damage was a broken window caused by a BB gun shot at the window, according to police.

The paint on the gas tank of a motorcycle parked in the 200 block of Sangamon Street was reported scratched by an unknown object on June 13.

Police were dispatched to Walgreens Pharmacy, 15 S. Orchard Dr., on June 13 shortly before 11 p.m. to investigate a report of retail theft. According to police, a black male subject entered the store and took an unknown quantity of electronic toothbrushes valued at $9.99 each. Police say the subject was 6’1″ in height with a skinny build, dark complexion, wearing a blue hat, blue coat, and tan pants.

Police were dispatched to the Park Forest Police Department on June 14 to investigate a report of telephone harassment. Police have suspect information and continue to investigate.

Robert L. Jones, 45, 23457 Western Ave., Park Forest, was arrested on June 14 and charged with one felony count of retail theft when police were dispatched to Walgreens, 15 S. Orchard Dr., to investigate a report of retail theft. According to police, Jones allegedly took three six-pack packages of Dove bar soap. Police say Jones had a previous conviction of retail theft on December 26, 2007.

Steven J. Clanton, 20, 238 Arrowhead St., Park Forest, was arrested on June 17 and charged with domestic battery. Police were dispatched to a residence in the 200 block of Blackhawk Drive on June 14 to investigate a report of a domestic disturbance. Clanton was arrested in connection with that report.

Police were dispatched to the intersection of Homan Ave and Gettysburg Street on June 15 shortly after 10 p.m. to investigate a report of a vehicle fire. Upon arrival, the officers observed an unoccupied vehicle on fire on the South side of the parking lot of 3200 Lincoln Highway. The Park Forest Fire Department arrived on the scene and extinguished the fire. Officers ran the vehicle registration through LEADS and discovered that the vehicle had been reported stolen out of Chicago on June 13, 2009. Police processed the scenes and took digital photos of the vehicle, which were placed into evidence. The vehicle was towed by Coy’s Towing.

Police were dispatched to the area of Illinois and Sandburg Streets on June 16 to investigate a report of criminal defacement. Officer Hoskins observed signs similar to gang graffiti spray-painted with black paint on the sidewalk on the north side of Illinois Street.

Mariano G. Moore, 21, 395 Oswego St., Park Forest, was arrested on June 15 and charged with domestic battery when police were dispatched to that address to investigate a report of a fight in progress. A juvenile was also arrested and charged with improper parking on a roadway, failure to signal when required, operation of an uninsured motor vehicle, and driving with no driver’s license.

Police were dispatched to a vacant residence in the 200 block of Arcadia Street to investigate a report of criminal damage to property. Police observed two shattered windows and an aluminum fence post that had been broken off at its base. Police also discovered charcoal lying in the driveway. The charcoal had been used to write, “GDN TAKEN OVER,” according to police. The graffiti was easily removed with water, according to police.

A portable DVD/monitor was reported stolen from the head rest of the driver’s seat of a vehicle parked in the Metra Lot, 520 Homan Avenue, on June 17. A rear window of the vehicle had been shattered.

Police were dispatched to a business in the 100 block of South Orchard Drive on June 17 to investigate a report of criminal damage to property. According to police, an unknown person or persons had attempted to gain entry to a store via the rear doors of the business. Police observed damage to the doors that appeared to have been made by a crowbar. Entry was not gained to the building.

Dieter Huhn, 59, 323 Dogwood St., Park Forest, was arrested on June 17 and charged with domestic battery and criminal damage to property when police were dispatched to that address to investigate a report of a domestic disturbance.

An orange BMX bike was reported stolen from the 100 block of Blackhawk Drive on June 17.

Police were dispatched to a residence in the 100 block of Shabbona Drive to investigate a report of criminal damage to property. Police observed scratches on the front fender, front and rear doors, rear quarter panel, and the hood of a truck. Police have suspect information and continue to investigate.

Lowell J. Page, 29, 19460 Glenwood Rd., Apt. 119, Chicago Heights, was arrested on June 17 and charged with possession of cannabis, when an officer parked on the north side of 26th Street just east of the east entrance to Allegheny Street, observed the vehicle Page was driving traveling 52 m.p.h. in a 40 m.p.h. zone, according to police. Officer Lara, who made the arrest, recovered Ziploc bags containing suspect cannabis from the vehicle, valued at approximately $300, and $2949 cash, according to police.

Austin K. Mack, 20, 214 Kentucky St., Park Forest, was arrested on June 18 and issued municipal citations charging illegal possession of alcohol by a minor and tinted windows when an officer on patrol noticed the vehicle Mack was driving had front tinted windows on both the driver’s and passenger’s sides, according to police.

Brittani P. Newman, 20, 111 E. Sycamore Dr., Apt. 612, Park Forest, was arrested on June 18 and charged with criminal damage to property and disorderly conduct when police were dispatched to that address to investigate a report of someone throwing things from a balcony. Newman told police she was angry with her boyfriend and began throwing items from the balcony which belonged to him, including a large storage bin and his clothing, according to police.

Police were dispatched to the Norwood Currency Exchange, 820 Norwood Blvd., Park Forest, on June 18 to investigate a report of deceptive practice. The Currency Exchange had cashed a check earlier on June 6, 2009, in the amount of $794.31 and deposited it. The business was then informed by its bank that the check was fraudulent. Police have suspect information and continue to investigate.

Andre L. Collins, 25, 185 N. Windmere Circle, Matteson, was arrested on June 18 and charged with expired registration, improper use of registration, operating an uninsured motor vehicle, violation of driver’s license classification, driving while driver’s license is suspended, and attempted obstructing a peace officer, when an officer on patrol on Western Avenue south of Indianwood Boulevard, observed that the motorcycle Collins was driving had expired license plates and belonged to a different motorcycle, according to police. Collins was also processed on two outstanding warrants.

Police were dispatched to the Park Forest Police Department on June 18 to investigate a report of domestic battery. Police have suspect information and continue to investigate.

Terry L. Johnson, 29, 267 W. Hickory St., Chicago Heights, was arrested on June 15 and charged with domestic battery, resisting a peace officer, and issued a citation charging possession of alcohol by a passenger, when police were dispatched to a residence in the 200 block of Arrowhead Street to investigate a report of a domestic battery in progress. Marcus A. Skinner, 26, 277 W. 16th Pl., Chicago Heights, was also arrested and charged with unlawful interference with the reporting of domestic violence and issued a citation charging possession of alcohol by driver, and no proof of insurance.

James C. Echols, 19, 502 Wildwood Dr., Park Forest, was arrested on June 18 and charged with disorderly conduct and possession of cannabis when an officer, on patrol in the Eastgate neighborhood, observed two men in the front yard of a house in the 200 block of Allegheny Street punching each other in the face with closed fists, according to police. The other man, Charles W. Thigpen, 24, 2228 Joliet St., Dixmoor, was arrested and charged with disorderly conduct.

A 42-inch Magnavox flat screen television, valued at $600., was reported stolen from a residence in the 100 block of Algonquin Street on June 19.
