Park Forest Police Report for March 2, 2009


Ashley K. Gates, 18, 24 Hemlock St., Park Forest, and a juvenile were arrested on February 19 and charged with criminal damage to property when police responded to Court G-5 to investigate a report of criminal damage to a vehicle.

Anthony D. Muniz, 22, 19813 Park Ave., Lynwood, was arrested on February 20 and issued municipal citations charging no rear brake light, no rear registration light, and possession of cannabis when an officer on patrol traveling northbound on Western Avenue at Algonquin Street observed the vehicle Muniz was driving had no rear registration light and only one brake light, according to police.

A Blackberry Curve Cell phone valued at $200 was reported stolen from a teacher’s desk at Rich East High School on February 20.

A bedroom window of a house in the first block of West Rocket Circle was reported shattered on February 21. Police have suspect information.

Shameka S. Oliver, 21, 9 Apple Ln., Park Forest, and Rita R. Oliver, 41, 9 Apple Ln., Park Forest, were arrested on February 21 and charged with obstructing a peace officer. Officer DeVries, who was monitoring a Chicago Heights main band report of a shooting on the radio, recognized the names of the suspects given out by the CHPD. Chicago Heights Police also gave out a description of the vehicles the suspects were driving.  According to police, DeVries knew the names of the suspects from previous contacts, and knew they were friends with another individual who lives in the first block of Apple Lane.  DeVries parked his vehicle in the first block of Apple Lane and waited.  A vehicle approached, and DeVries recognized the front seat passenger as one of the possible suspects wanted in Chicago Heights, according to police.  Shameka Oliver was driving the vehicle.  DeVries initiated a traffic stop in front of 9 Apple Lane.  According to police, Rita Oliver came from the house, was instructed by police to stay near the house, but disregarded these instructions, according to police.  The passenger and two other males in the vehicle were turned over to the Chicago Heights Police Department.

Shamus D. Davis, 29, 1626 East Fairchild St., Danville, IL, was arrested on February 21 and charged with misdemeanor domestic battery when police were dispatched to a residence in the 100 block of Nauvoo Street to investigate a report of domestic battery.

Police were dispatched to a business in the 2500 block of Western Avenue on February 23 to investigate a report of theft. There were no arrests. Due to conflicting stories of this incident, the case was closed until further evidence could be found, according to police.

Two teenagers were arrested on February 23 and charged with disorderly conduct when an officer working as a Liaison Officer at Rich East High School was notified over the radio about a fight between two students.

A juvenile was arrested and issued municipal citations charging obstructing the right-of-way and resisting a peace officer when an officer observed several juvenile subjects walking into the center of the intersection at Lakewood Boulevard at Orchard Drive. The subjects did not use the marked crosswalks at the intersection and caused several vehicles, including that of the officer, to have to stop in the roadway to avoid striking the subjects, according to police.

Alfonzo J. Grice, 21, 610 Gordon Terrace, University Park, was arrested on February 25 and issued municipal citations charging improper display of registration and possession of cannabis when an officer traveling southbound on Western Avenue from Lincoln Highway observed the vehicle Grice was driving had no visible rear license plate, according to police.  Grice’s vehicle was towed and seized under local ordinance. A passenger, Ryan L. Lumsdon, 17, 9272 W. 159th St., Lowell, IN, was arrested and also issued a municipal citation charging possession of cannabis.

A blue gym bag containing workout clothes and a black leather wallet were reported stolen from a vehicle parked in the 100 block of North Arbor Trail on February 25.

Johnnie L. Jones, 17, 502 Wildwood Dr., Park Forest, was arrested on February 25 and charged with battery when police were dispatched to the 300 block of Sauk Trail to investigate a report of a fight.

Dominique R. Cole, 20, 2707 Commercial, South Chicago Heights, was arrested on February 26 and charged with domestic battery, aggravated assault, and criminal damage to property when police were dispatched to the 200 block of Arcadia Street in reference to a report of a domestic disturbance.

Police were dispatched to the first block of Apache Street on November 26 to investigate a report of a structure fire. The Park Forest Fire Department also responded. Upon arrival,  Officer Mannino observed smoke emanating from a detached garage. Park Forest Fire Fighters were able to open the bay door from inside the garage and extinguished the fire. Police continue to investigate the incident as a possible arson, according to police.

John E. Porter, 19, 309 Sheridan St., Park Forest, was arrested on February 26 and charged with residential burglary when police were dispatched to t­he 200 block of Lester Street to investigate a report of theft.

Police were dispatched to the 200 block of Allegheny Street just before 2:30 p.m. on February 27 to investigate a delayed report of reckless discharge of a firearm. A resident reported that at approximately 8:30 a.m. she was inside her residence cleaning when she heard a noise. She reported that she could not tell what it was so she continued with her work. At approximately 8:50 a.m., she reported that her daughter found a bullet on the kitchen floor. The resident said she went to the store, and when she returned home she found a small hole in the drywall and that the right side of her stove was damaged, according to police. When police arrived to investigate, they found four expended brass-colored shell casings on the road in front of the residence. They recovered other evidence as well. Police continue to investigate.
