Park Forest Police Report – January 12, 2009


A license plate was reported stolen from a vehicle parked in a parking lot in the 300 block of Sauk Trail on January 2.

A PlayStation 2 game system and two game controllers were reported stolen from a residence in the 100 block of Washington Street on January 2.

Mark L. Harvey, Sr., 38, 425 Lakewood Blvd., Park Forest, was arrested on January 3 and charged with domestic battery when police were dispatched to that address to investigate a report of a domestic disturbance.

Police were dispatched to a residence in the 400 block of Miami Street to investigate a burglary on January 3. A washer, dryer, stainless steel stove, stainless steel refrigerator, and stainless steel microwave were reported stolen from the residence. Police recovered evidence from the scene and continue to investigate.

John Williams, 49, address unknown, was arrested on January 5 and charged with possession of drug paraphernalia when police responded to the area of Indiana and Sheridan Streets to investigate a call regarding a report of a suspicious person.

John W. Johnson, 59, 507 Nathan Rd., University Park, was arrested on January 5 and charged with one felony count of retail theft when police were dispatched to CVS Pharmacy, 1 Main Street, to investigate a report of a retail theft in progress. Johnson allegedly took two boxes of cough syrup from the store without paying for them, according to police.

Police were dispatched to a residence in the 100 block of Ash Street on January 5 to investigate a report of a domestic disturbance. There were no arrests.

Ten compact discs and a cup containing loose change were reported stolen from a vehicle parked in the 200 block of Mohawk Street on January 6.

Police responded to the Park Forest Police Department on January 7 to investigate a report of identity theft. A resident reported being contacted by a creditor that he was delinquent on a loan. The loan, in the amount of $300, was obtained in his name without his permission, according to police.

George A. Johnson, 32, 226 Allegheny St., Park Forest, was arrested on January 7 and charged with battery when police responded to a residence in the 200 block of Allegheny Street to investigate a report of a neighbor dispute. At the Police Department, while Johnson’s property was being inventoried, Corporal Boulden recovered a counterfeit $20 bill from Johnson’s left rear pocket, according to police. When questioned, Johnson allegedly stated that he knew he had the counterfeit $20 bill and that he had received it playing video games with a friend in Chicago Heights, according to police. Police contacted the Secret Service regarding the counterfeit bill.

Darren C. Hayes Jr., 21, 32 Oakhurst Rd., Matteson, was arrested on January 7 and charged with speeding, misdemeanor driving while license revoked, and a misdemeanor criminal charge of obstructing a peace officer when an officer patrolling northbound on Western Avenue at Hemlock Street observed the vehicle Hayes was driving traveling at a high rate of speed, according to police.
