Park Forest Police Report – January 26, 2009


Arnell Ewing, 28, 270 Minocqua St., Park Forest, was arrested on December 18 and charged with one felony count of aggravated fleeing and eluding a police officer, speeding not more than 20 mph over the posted limit, five counts of disobeying a stop sign, and four counts of disobeying a traffic signal when an officer on patrol observed the vehicle Ewing was driving traveling northbound on Western Avenue at a high rate of speed.

A juvenile was arrested on January 13 and issued a municipal citations charging possession of cannabis when police were dispatched to Park Forest Academy, 375 Oswego Street, to investigate a complaint of possession of cannabis.

An officer was dispatched to the Park Forest Police Department on January 16 in reference to a report of fraud. A resident reported that someone withdrew $680 from his checking account on January 15 without his permission. Police have suspect information and the case has been turned over to the Detective Division.

An officer was dispatched to a residence in the first block of Marquette Street on January 16 to investigate a report of criminal damage to property. The officer observed damage to the rear door of the residence where it appeared as if someone had attempted to enter the residence. However, entry was not gained and nothing else was missing or damaged. Police continue to investigate.

The rear passenger side window of a vehicle parked in the 100 block of Illinois Street was reported shattered on January 16.

The front driver’s side door and the front passenger side door of a vehicle parked in the first block of Cherry Street were reported scratched on January 16.

Police responded to the Park Forest Academy on January 16 to investigate a report of harassing phone calls. Police have suspect information.

Lawrence D. Young, Jr., 21, 50 Timberlane Rd., Matteson, was arrested on January 17 and charged with possession of cannabis, driving too fast for conditions, and an expired registration when an officer was dispatched to the intersection of Indiana Street and Route 30 to investigate an accident. Robin D. Richey, 25, 15 Fir St., Park Forest, was also arrested and charged with possession of cannabis.

Police were dispatched to a residence in the 200 block of Sangamon Street on January 17 to investigate a report of a domestic disturbance. There were no arrests.

Ishmel Blade, 29, 4341 W. 176th Place, Country Club Hills, was arrested on January 18 and charged with possession of cannabis, defective windshield, failure to signal when required, operation of an uninsured motor vehicle, and driving while license suspended when an officer on patrol in the area of Western Avenue and Sauk Trail observed the vehicle Blade was driving allegedly turn eastbound on Sauk Trail without signaling.

Police were dispatched to a residence in the 200 block of Miami Street on January 18 to investigate a report of domestic battery. Police have suspect information.

Police were dispatched to the Park Forest Police Department on January 18 to investigate a report of theft. A resident reported that her debit card had been removed from her wallet while friends were visiting at her house. Police continue to investigate.

Police were dispatched to a residence in the 200 block of Kentucky Street on January 19 to investigate a 911 call during which a female voice was heard screaming, “Stop!” just before the phone was hung up. Police are seeking a suspect regarding a complaint of domestic battery.

A juvenile was arrested and issued a municipal ticket charging trespassing when police were dispatched to Family Dollar, 108 S. Orchard Dr., to investigate a report of suspicious juveniles.

Police were dispatched to the first block of Apple Street on January 20 shortly before 6 p.m. to investigate a report of shots fired. According to witnesses, several shots were fired on Apple Street and then three or four vehicles fled the area. Police have suspect information and detectives continue to investigate.

A PlayStation 3 game console valued at $300, a PlayStation 2 game console valued at $100, an Xbox game valued at $300, a 24-karat gold diamond ring valued at $2000, a 24-karat gold necklace with diamonds valued at $1000, a 24-karat gold diamond watch valued at $700, an IBM laptop computer valued at $800, and a number of other items were reported stolen from a residence in the 300 block of Forest Boulevard on January 20. Entry was gained to the residence through a basement window, according to police. Police continue to investigate.

Police were dispatched to South Suburban Christian School, 119 Chestnut St., on January 21 to investigate a complaint of criminal defacement to the building. Police observed graffiti on the northeast end of the building and the mobile unit located on the west side of the parking lot of the school.

A juvenile was arrested on January 21 when police were dispatched to Park Forest Academy, 375 Oswego Street, to meet with staff members in reference to a report of a student who had been found to be in possession of suspect cannabis. The juvenile was processed and released to his mother. His case will be referred to the Juvenile Investigation Division for possible petitioning.

Brian R. Stewart, 26, 77 Water St., Park Forest, was arrested on January 21 and charged with operation of the motor vehicle with expired registration, operation of an uninsured motor vehicle, failure to wear a seatbelt, transportation of open alcoholic beverages, and driving while drivers license revoked when an officer on patrol in the area of Westwood Drive and Orchard Drive observed that the vehicle Stewart was driving had expired registration.

A Sony LCD HDTV valued at $2401.84 and a Nintendo Wii valued at $249.99 were reported stolen from a residence in the first block of Apache Street on January 22.

Eric A. Miller, 29, 1430 Donovan Dr., Chicago Heights, was arrested on January 22 and charged with drivers license not on person, no valid registration, obstructed windshield, and possession of cannabis when officers on patrol observed the vehicle Miller was driving traveling southbound on Western Avenue at Norwood Boulevard. Officers ran a LEADS inquiry on the vehicle’s registration and learned that the registration was not on record through the Secretary of State, according to police.

Jason E. Poteete, 23, 22509 Jackson Ct., Richton Park, was arrested on January 23 and charged with possession of cannabis and expired registration when an officer on patrol near the Marathon Gas Station, 385 Sauk Trail, observed Poteete engage in a hand-to-hand transaction with two other individuals. Poteete then entered his vehicle and began to drive away from the gas station. The officer followed and initiated a traffic stop and took Poteete into custody. The officer had been patrolling the area because citizens residing near the gas station have filed numerous complaints in the past in reference to drug activity at the gas station. Detectives then went to the gas station to investigate the other two individuals and compiled a separate report.
