Police to Purchase Vehicle with Seized Funds

Park Forest, IL–(ENEWSPF)– The Village Board approved the purchase of a new vehicle for the Police Department using funds seized during narcotics investigations.

According to Chief of Police Thomas Fleming, the 2008/2009 Police Department budget includes $110,000.00 in funds for the replacement of four police squad cars.

The car will be utilized by both the re-active detectives and the STAND-UP teams and will be purchased using funds currently in the State asset forfeiture account. Those funds were seized over the past several years during narcotics investigations and turned over to the Village to use to fight the war on drugs. Thomas Dodge is matching the price for the State of Illinois purchasing bid cost. According to Chief Fleming, Thomas Dodge is the only south suburban car dealer at this time who has the vehicle in stock at the State bid cost. It is the Police Department’s intent to purchase the vehicle from Thomas Dodge.
