Presence Of Customer Forestalls Robbery Attempt

Park Forest, IL—(ENEWSPF)— The presence of an unexpected customer may have prevented a robbery last week at the 7-11 on Sauk Trail.

On Sunday, August 12, officers were dispatched to the 7-11 on Sauk Trail in reference to a hold-up alarm.  While police were en route to the scene, the call was changed to an attempted robbery.

Officers spoke with a clerk, who related being approached at the checkout counter by a suspect who allegedly said, “Give me everything in the register.”

The clerk replied, “Absolutely not.”

According to the report, at this point the suspect then allegedly used his right hand to reach toward the small of his back and asked, “Are you sure about that?”

Just then , an unknown customer approached the counter, and the suspect began to exit the store. He was joined by two other suspects who had entered the store after the first suspect demanded money. All three exited together.

The clerk believes the suspect was startled by the unknown customer.

Police continue to investigate.
