Rep. Jan Schakowsky Statement On Continued Violence in Israel and the West Bank

Evanston, IL –(ENEWSPF)—October 19, 2015. Today, Congresswoman Jan Schakowsky released the following statement after the recent acts of violence in Israel and the West Bank:

“I join with many in the 9th Congressional District and around the world in expressing my deep concern for recent events in Israel and the West Bank. My heart goes out to those who have been affected by the violence.

“As a Jewish member of Congress, I strongly support Israel’s right to defend itself against these terrorist attacks. Every country has the right and responsibility to protect its people. No community should fear for the safety of their children. No person should live in fear when they leave their homes to go to work, to school or to worship.

“Recent events and the increase of violent terrorist attacks are just more evidence of the need for a permanent two state solution. I call on Secretary Kerry, Prime Minister Netanyahu, and President Abbas to work together and return to the table for negotiations and ultimately, a peaceful, permanent two state solution that allows for Israelis and Palestinians to live in peace, security, and prosperity.

“The increase in violence must come to an end if there is to be a peaceful resolution to the conflict. We can no longer afford to ignore the current state of affairs and the need for a permanent, peaceful solution.”
