Revolver Tumbles from Top of Car

Park Forest, IL–(ENEWSPF)– A resident lost a revolver when he placed it on top of his car, forgot about it, and drove away from home recently.

Police were dispatched to a residence in the 300 block of Herndon Street to investigate a report of a lost article.

A resident reported losing a five shot blue steel Taurus revolver with a 2-inch barrel when he left to go on a trip out of town. According to the resident, on September 26 he was preparing to leave home at approximately 1 15 a.m., intending to take his firearm with him.

He told police he placed the firearm on top of his vehicle while he loaded his luggage in the vehicle. After loading the car, he got in and started his journey. While driving down Herndon, the resident reported hearing a loud thump as if something was falling off his vehicle. He did not stop to investigate, but realized after he reached his destination that it was his gun that he heard falling off the roof of his vehicle.

Police determined the resident had a valid Firearm Owner’s Identification card. The weapon was placed into LEADS as a lost or stolen article.
