Scholarships Available for Secondary Education Majors at GSU


University Park, IL–(ENEWSPF)– The Teacher Quality Enhancement Recruitment (TQE-R) grant at Governors State University is offering full one-year scholarships to students entering the university’s secondary education programs in biology, chemistry, English, or math.

This renewable scholarship pays for tuition, fees, books, and childcare through the Family Development Center at GSU for one full academic year. Applications for Winter 2009 must be submitted by December 1, 2008. Scholarship requirements and applications are available at www.govst.edu/tqe.

This program is funded by a grant from the U.S. Department of Education.

GSU Hosts Art Fest

Governors State University is hosting the second annual Arts Fest on Thursday, November 6. Arts Fest is a creative and festive celebration of the arts that embraces both the creative soul and the imaginative mind. Interactive workshops taught by art English, and media communications faculty invite attendees to tap into their creative muse and learn more about the arts.

Workshop topics include mosaics, photography, digital film-making, creativity, and printmaking. Additionally seminars offered include an art history roundtable discussion and “Two to See,” a review of two of the most noted sculptures in the Nathan Manilow Sculputre Park. The 26-piece outdoor sculpture park is on the grounds of Governors State University. Workshops will be held from 1 to 6 p.m.

Following the workshops and seminars, there will be an exhibition of the artwork of GSU students and faculty and a performance by the Projection Band at 6 p.m.
