Acclaimed Chicago Writer Lindsay Hunter to Read at Roosevelt’s Gage Gallery on October 7

Hunter

CHICAGO–(ENEWSPF)–October 3, 2013.  Lindsay Hunter, author of the acclaimed new short story collection Don’t Kiss Me, will read from her work as part of this fall’s Roosevelt University Reading Series at 5 p.m. Monday, Oct.  7 in Roosevelt’s Gage Gallery, 18 S. Michigan Ave., Chicago.

Hunter, a long-time Chicago resident originally from Florida, writes fast-paced, voice-driven stories, usually from the perspective of characters on the margins of society. In a review of Don’t Kiss Me, the Boston Globe says “although she trades in the unsavory, Hunter’s style is both ingenious and mature” and concludes that “Hunter is such a talented writer that she makes the unimaginably unpleasant seem natural, and terrifyingly so.”

Prior to her most recent book, Hunter published a collection of stories called Daddy’s with local press Featherproof Books. She is the cofounder and cohost of the renowned flash-fiction reading series Quickies!

“We couldn’t be more excited to be hosting Lindsay Hunter,” says Christian TeBordo, Director of the MFA Program in Creative Writing at Roosevelt. “Reviewers have been raving about her work, and rightly so. But I think, in trying to describe what she’s doing, they often neglect one point — the stories are as funny as they are disturbing. She’s one of the freshest, most honest voices in contemporary fiction, and she’s also an incredible performer.”

Free and open to the public, the reading is presented by the MFA in Creative Writing Program, the University’s literary magazine, Oyez Review, and the Department of Literature and Languages at Roosevelt University. For more information, contact [email protected] or 312-341-2417.
