University Park, IL-(ENEWSPF)- The Division of Psychology and Counseling at Governors State University recently awarded its highest honors to both students and faculty.

Kevin Houcek of Steger received the Psychology Undergraduate Student of the Year award. Dianna Evers of Park Forest was named Clinical Psychology Graduate Student of the Year. Christine Carlson of Oak Forest received the Theoretical Psychology Graduate Student of the Year award. Baochun (Jojo) Zhou of Richton Park was named Marriage and Family Counseling Graduate Student of the Year. Sarah Fortier of Romeoville earned the School Counseling Graduate Student of the Year. Cindy Fisher of Tinley Park was named Community Counseling Graduate Student of the Year.

Dr. Elizabeth Ruiz, associate professor, was awarded 2011 Psychology and Counseling Faculty of the Year Award.

Dr. Shannon Dermer, Chair of the Division of Psychology and Counseling, presented certificates to each of the honorees and the students were also awarded a gift card.

“These awards are given to students who have shown great dedication to their studies. We honored them today for their hard work and academic success,” said Dr. Dermer. “Dr. Ruiz was recognized for her achievements as an educator and the depth of her knowledge. We are very proud of all this year’s honorees.”
