University Park, IL—(ENEWSPF)—February 16, 2015. Governors State University (GSU), 1 University Parkway, University Park will celebrate “Black Women Rock” (BWR) with two events Friday, February 20 and Saturday, February 21. A Resource and Vendor Fair Friday, February 20, from 10 a.m. – 4 p.m. will be held in the university’s Hall of Governors. The fair will provide an opportunity for local business and agencies to sell products and showcase their services. There will also be She Speaks, a series of empowerment speakers on various topics taking place during that time.

On Saturday, February 21, the university will also hold a “Black Women Rock” awards show at 6:30 p.m. in the Center for Performing Arts. The awards show will celebrate outstanding achievements of Black female students, faculty, and staff at Governors State University and community members in surrounding areas. This year’s Guest Speaker is Amy Hilliard, President of Ebony Fashion Fair Cosmetics with a performance by Ayodele Drum and Dance Company as well as other artists. The Red Carpet begins at 5 p.m. in the Hall of Governors.

Inspired by BET’s Black Girls Rock, BWR aims to empower women to pursue their personal aspirations, encourage women to support others who are making positive strides and enlighten women on tools for success.
