Building Trades, Painting & Drywall Pre-Apprenticeship Program Orientation and Testing Scheduled at Prairie State College

CHICAGO HEIGHTS—(ENEWSPF)—August 16, 2013. Prairie State College (PSC) is holding an orientation and testing session for the Building Trades, Painting & Drywall Pre-Apprenticeship Program from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m., Thursday, Aug. 29. The session is in the Conference Center Heritage Room, located on the PSC main campus at 202 S. Halsted St. in Chicago Heights.

To qualify to participate, attendees must be 18 years or older and bring a valid driver’s license or state ID. Participants will take reading and math tests.

The eight-week program begins Sept. 9, and is offered tuition free to accepted applicants. It includes six weeks of training in the classroom and two weeks practicing the skills learned, and is offered in partnership with PSC and the South Suburban Community Development Corp. The training cost is covered by grants from JP Morgan Chase Foundation and The Coleman Foundation.

“This community effort is working together to provide remedial education, addressing barriers to employment, training in the painting, drywall, and carpentry industry, on-the-job training, entrepreneurial skills, and potential entry into union pre-apprentice training,” said Lisa Zeigler, PSC grants program project manager.
