CHICAGO–(ENEWSPF)–October 24, 2013.  Christopher G. Kennedy, chairman of Joseph P. Kennedy Enterprises, will be the keynote speaker at the 12th annual Real Estate Gala hosted by the Marshall Bennett Institute of Real Estate at Roosevelt University.

In his role as chairman, Kennedy is responsible for the development of the Kennedy Family’s real estate holdings in Chicago known as Wolf Point. He is most well-known for his work as president of Merchandise Mart Properties Inc. (MMPI) from October 2000 until July 2011, which includes properties in Chicago, Los Angeles and Boston. He began his career there in 1990.  He also is founder and chairman of Top Box Foods, a non-profit, hunger-relief organization; a member of the Board of Trustees for Ariel Investments Mutual Fund, chair of the Nominating and Governance Committee of Interface, Inc., and chair of the Finance Committee for The Chicago Community Trust.

“We are honored to have Chris speak at the Gala,” said Jon B. DeVries, director of Roosevelt’s Marshall Bennett Institute of Real Estate. “His work with MMPI, including creating new economic opportunities at the Merchandise Mart, and leading efforts for it to become the world’s largest Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) certified building are just part of the significant contributions he has made to the city of Chicago.  We look forward to hearing him discuss his continued focus on economic development and other upcoming projects.”

The gala will be held at the Four Seasons Hotel, 120 E. Delaware Place, Chicago, starting at 5:30 p.m.  Each year the gala is the premier real estate networking event of the year in Chicago.  The event provides over half of the Institute’s annual operating budget as well as support for named funds and scholarships.

Since its founding in 2002, the Marshall Bennett Institute of Real Estate has grown to become one of the largest graduate real estate programs in the country and one of the most diverse. When it was created, the institute had 25 people in its initial class. Now it now has 50 enrolled students and more than 270 graduates, many of whom now work at Chicago firms.  The institute offers a master of business administration degree with a concentration in real estate as well as a master of science in real estate.
