College Illinois!® 529 Prepaid Tuition Program Partners With Wolves Hockey

CHICAGO–(ENEWSPF)–March 5, 2010.  The College Illinois! 529 Prepaid Tuition Program has partnered with the Chicago Wolves to put fears about how to pay for college on ice, offering Wolves hockey fans the chance to learn about how to save for college the prepaid way at two upcoming events March 7 and 13.

“Our involvement with a family-friendly organization like the Wolves allows us to reach families with our message of starting early on saving for college while locking in tuition prices,” said Andrew Davis, executive director of the Illinois Student Assistance Commission, which administers the program.  “Chicago is the new ‘hockey town,’ and the Wolves and their fans are a big part of that. We invite them to learn about the prepaid tuition advantage by visiting our Web site, www.529prepaidtuition.org.”

The College Illinois! 529 Prepaid Tuition Program and Jewel-Osco present the Chicago Wolves 12th annual “Baby Derby” during the first intermission of their game Sunday, March 7, versus the Lake Erie Monsters at 3 p.m.  Five babies, ages 10 to 12 months, were chosen in a random drawing to crawl from start to finish on a five-lane mat at center ice. The baby to cross the finish line first will win his or her family a three-night resort getaway.

The following Saturday night is College Illinois! 529 Prepaid Tuition Program Night at Allstate Arena, as the Wolves play host to the Houston Aeros at 7 p.m.  The first 5,000 fans to enter the arena will receive a Chris Chelios wall cling compliments of the College Illinois! 529 Prepaid Tuition Program.  Fans will also have the chance to find out more information about prepaid tuition from representatives stationed on the concourse.

Join the College Illinois! 529 Prepaid Tuition Program mascot, Rex, at the Wolves Saturday Fun Fest located at the Allstate Arena Skyline Room prior to the March 13 game from 5 p.m. to 6:30 p.m.

The Chicago Wolves are an American Hockey League franchise and the top affiliate of the National Hockey League’s Atlanta Thrashers.  The team has captured four league titles in its 16-year existence, most recently the 2008 Calder Cup.  More than 5 million fans have enjoyed Wolves hockey at the Allstate Arena, and the club is the only AHL organization to televise all 80 games, along with every playoff contest, live each season.

Administered by the Illinois Student Assistance Commission, the College Illinois! 529 Prepaid Tuition Program is a secure college funding option because benefits do not fluctuate with the stock market.  Since the program’s inception in 1998, more than 66,000 prepaid tuition contracts with a value of more than $1.6 billion have been purchased. The program’s Trust Fund is managed by professional money managers, subject to oversight by the program’s Investment Advisory Panel and the Illinois Student Assistance Commission.
