CHICAGO–(ENEWSPF)–September 19, 29013. A Roosevelt University finance major is one of the Roosevelt people featured in a new University advertising campaign, This Way Up, which launched the week of Sept. 16 throughout Chicagoland.
Victoria Pena, 20, a 2011 graduate of Glenbard East High School, appears in cap and gown in one of the new campaign’s ads that includes the headline “Give the Status Quo a Status Update.”
The ad is currently running on a new 13 by 18-foot double-sided 6.6-millimeter digital screen that is located in the center of Woodfield Shopping Center in the mall’s Grand Court.
It can also be seen on CTA L platforms, on CTA bus shelters and inside L cars as well as at Schaumburg bus shelters, on cinema screens throughout the region, on a digital board on I-290 near the Schaumburg Campus and in print in many area newspapers including those affiliated with 10 of the region’s community colleges.
“It’s been a fun experience for me because I’m not photographed that often and am usually the one taking the photos,” said Pena, who is a member of Roosevelt’s Association of Latin American Students (ALAS) and was president of the student organization last year.
Since the campaign launched on Monday, Sept. 16, Pena has seen the ad distributed widely on Facebook and has had many friends ask her whether she has graduated from the University – given the advertisement.
“Sometimes I get upset about the price of college,” said Pena, who also took part over the summer in a press conference at Roosevelt about rising interest rates on federal student loans with U.S. Senator Dick Durbin.
“But I’ve managed to stay at Roosevelt. It’s a place I always wanted to be because of the University’s social justice mission and I couldn’t imagine going to any other school,” said Pena.
“I know there’s something I still need to accomplish at Roosevelt,” added Pena. “And that is to get my college degree.”
The business student, who takes classes at Roosevelt’s Chicago and Schaumburg campuses, will graduate from the University in 2015.
