Governor Pat Quinn Teams Up With Bears’ Garrett Wolfe to Back After-School Programs

CHICAGO–(ENEWSPF)–October 6, 2009. Governor Pat Quinn and Garrett Wolfe, Chicago Bears Running Back and a recent graduate of Northern Illinois University, will team up today to stress the importance of after-school programs and their value to the community. The two will participate in an event showcasing teenagers who are benefiting from the Teen REACH after-school program on Chicago’s West Side.

Also, joining the event is Dennis McKinnon, former wide receiver for the Super Bowl XX Champion Chicago Bears.

“After-school programs strengthen our neighborhoods and build team work by providing our children with positive re-enforcement that centers on activities aimed toward improving grades, providing important life skills and preventing risky behavior,” said Governor Quinn. “We must confront the problem of teen violence and I’m proud that football greats Garrett Wolfe and Dennis McKinnon are on our team and scoring big for their community.”

Also participating is Cynthia Williams, director and chief executive officer for the Austin People’s Action Center. The event will be at 3 P.M. at the Austin People’s Action Center, 5125 West Chicago Ave.

Teen REACH stands for Responsibility, Education, Achievement, Caring and Hope. It provides services to high-risk youth between the ages of six and 17. The purpose of the program is to expand the range of choices and opportunities that enable, empower and encourage youth to achieve success and to avoid or reduce risk-taking behavior.
