Governors State Hosts Summer Undergrad Open House

University Park, IL–(ENEWSPF)– Prospective students, with the proper transcripts, can be admitted on the spot to Governors State University at Instant Decision Day on Saturday, July 31. GSU will host the free undergraduate open house event from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. for students interested in transferring into one of GSU’s bachelor’s degree completion programs. Instant Decision Day takes place at GSU’s main campus in University Park.

At past Instant Decision Days, as many as half the attending students were admitted to GSU undergraduate programs, said Dr. Sharon Evans, Director of Admission and Student Recruitment. Admission counselors and academic program advisors are available to review transcripts and provide students with an instant decision on university admission.

GSU faculty, academic advisors, and financial aid counselors will be on hand to meet with prospective students about the university, specific undergraduate programs, and financial aid. Students have the option of attending group sessions or meeting with staff personnel on a one-to-one basis.

For many prospective students, Instant Decision Day is their first visit to Governors State, Dr. Evans said. “They see our staff’s level of professionalism and how much they care about students. Students can also tour the campus. We hope they walk in, look around, ask questions, and get a positive feeling about coming to GSU,” she said.

Governors State is the state’s only upper division university; classes start at the junior level and 75 percent of undergraduate students transfer from community colleges. GSU offers 22 bachelor’s degree programs for students with either 60 college credit hours or an associate’s degree. Courses are offered by the GSU’s Colleges of Arts and Sciences, Business and Public Administration, Education, and Health and Human Services.

GSU has the most affordable tuition of any Chicago-area university and more than half of all students receive some form of financial aid. Classes are conveniently scheduled and extensive career and support services are available to students.
