Governors State University Hosts Juried Student Art Exhibition

University Park, IL–(ENEWSPF)– Governors State University will host the 2010 Illinois Community College Juried Art Exhibition, from March 4 through 26, in the Visual Arts Gallery.

This exhibition is a wonderful opportunity to celebrate the creative work of young artists and to get a glimpse of the extraordinary talent in our region. Exhibiting artists include students from 18 Illinois community colleges including Joliet Junior College, Kankakee Community College, Parkland Community College, and South Suburban College among others

Selected works by student art will include painting, drawing, photography, sculpture, and ceramics. All students are allowed up to three entries.

Accomplished artist Kathleen Scarboro will serves as the juror. Scarboro has been a practicing artist for many years creating public work in Joliet and the surrounding region as well as in Paris, France where she currently resides. As the juror, she will select award winners at the exhibition based on artistic merit. Up to $1,000 in awards will be awarded, including $300 for Best of Show.

A closing reception to celebrate the show and the artists and present merit awards is on Friday, March 26, from 1 to 3 p.m., in E-Lounge. The exhibition, awards, and reception are sponsored by GSU’s College of Arts and Sciences and Student Life

The exhibit and reception are free and open to the public. Governors State University is located at 1 University Parkway, University Park. The gallery is open Monday through Thursday, from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. For more information, call (708) 534-4017.
