University Park, IL–(ENEWSPF)– The Department of Social Work at Governors State University hosted an induction ceremony for the newest members of Omicron Beta, the GSU chapter of the Phi Alpha Honor Society, the social work honor society, on Friday, March 19.
To be considered for the Phi Alpha Honor Society at the bachelor’s level (BSW), students must be enrolled in the social work program, have completed eight semester hours of required social work courses, and achieve a 3.25 grade point average in social work courses. Master’s level (MSW) students must be enrolled in the social work program and achieve a 3.5 grade point average.
The purpose of the Phi Alpha Honor Society is to provide a closer bond among students of social work and promote humanitarian goals and ideals. Phi Alpha fosters high standards of education for social workers and invites into membership those who have attained excellence in scholarship and achievement in social work. Inductees must also serve their community or the social work profession and have demonstrated service to or leadership in the community or university in the last two years.
