SOUTH HOLLAND, IL –(ENEWSPF)–April 11, 2013. The Art & Design Department of South Suburban College is pleased to present an exhibition and yoga class in the Dorothea Thiel Gallery that is open to the public at no charge. Nancy Frazier and Cecily Hunt have curated an exhibition entitled “Into Bhutan” which will be on display through April 23rd.
Following a life-changing trip to Bhutan in March-April, 2010, Nancy Frazier and Cecily Hunt developed a compelling desire to share what they had seen, and, more importantly, what they had felt. They wanted to share the Bhutanese way of being and to create an exhibit in which there is space for transformation and self-realization. There was so much to heighten the senses in Bhutan–mountain breezes on the skin, the rich aroma of burning incense, the spicy tang of chilies and cheese, the vibration of chanting monks and deep horns, vibrant or fading prayer flags snapping in the wind–but also an invitation to deepen, to explore within, to connect with and live your spirituality. It is their intention, their hope that the viewer of this work will also open to something new within.
Ms. Hunt will be conducting free“Yoga under the Prayer Flags” in the Dorothea Thiel Gallery (Room 4333) on Wednesday, April 17th from 5:30 p.m. – 7:00 p.m. The yoga will be conducted under prayer flags blessed in Bhutan by Buddhist monks. Hunt will guide a yoga practice appropriate for beginners and those wanting to deepen their practice. Gently stretching and strengthening muscles and joints while being mindful of the breath, Kripalu Yoga creates meditation in motion. Attendees will learn how to relax, increase self-awareness and acceptance while increasing strength, flexibility and balance. Some community mats will be available.
Additionally, the artists’ reception will be held on April 22nd at 11:30 a.m. The public is welcome to visit art exhibitions and receptions at no charge. The Dorothea Thiel and Photo 4 Galleries are located on the 4th Floor and are open Monday through Thursday from 9:00 a.m. – 6:00 p.m., and Fridays from 9:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m. The galleries are closed on weekends and holidays.
